Meet the MS nurse, Teresa

Teresa Felongco-Sagge is an MS specialist nurse at Imperial College NHS Trust

My role in the MS service is to provide information and resources to newly diagnosed patients with MS. I give advice on disease modifying treatments (DMTs) including prescribing symptom control medications. I also monitor and review patients on treatment or not on DMT and provide support in managing relapses.

The part of my role which helps patients the most is listening and demonstrating to them that they are part of the decision-making in managing their MS condition.

The most exciting development in my experience as a MS nurse is I can really boast of our robust and supportive MS team despite the inadequacies and challenges within the organisation, and we stick together as a team.

I am proud that our team have groups of neurologists, pharmacists and nurses who have regular meetings in discussing MS patients’ management.

I would advise any patient to list down the questions they have in writing to take with them so the appointment will be more productive.

Living with MS requires understanding and acceptance of the condition by the patient is very important. Managing MS is generally being humble enough to say when you are in need of other people’s support.
