As part of our commitment to supporting people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), we acknowledge that a diagnosis will not only impact the individual, but their family and friends too. We created the Caregivers’ Peer Pod to offer a safe and supportive space to those providing care support for loved ones living with MS.
Whether you have become a family member or friend’s main source of care, or you help a little with daily tasks, it can be extremely valuable to connect with others in a similar position and hear about their experiences of caring for someone. It’s also essential for your own wellbeing that you take some time for yourself too.
By joining our pod, you will have the opportunity to speak freely and openly about your own feelings and experiences and gain valuable peer support from others that truly understand.
If you are interested in joining this Peer Pod, or would like more information, please fill in our enquiry form by clicking the button. Vicky, our Peer Support Coordinator will be in touch with you shortly.
‘Hi I’m Sam and I am one of the hosts for the Caregiver’s Peer Pod.
I live in Gloucester with my wife Claire, who was diagnosed with MS in 2020. We have 2 boys and a black Labrador. We are part way through a 20-year programme of remodelling and refurbishing the family home!
I work as CDM Assurance Manager – providing assurance and support to project delivery teams for management of health, safety and Wellbeing during design and construction for major programmes.
I am hoping to meet others that are in a similar situation and to learn from their experiences. I look forward to welcoming you to the pod!’
‘Hi, I’m Russ and I have been the caregiver for my wife since her diagnosis in 1994, with my caregiving duties gradually increasing over the years. My wife now needs assistance with all the activities of daily living
We live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and we are retired. Before retirement I worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency and was adjunct professor at the Univ. of NC and NC State University. My background is in public health, air pollution, atmospheric physics, and exposure analysis. Additionally, I provided peer support to fellow EPA employees regarding workplace accommodations for disabilities as an officer of the American Federation of Government Employees.
I am pleased to be involved with this Peer Pod because it is one of the few caregiver support groups that is specific to MS, and it gives me the opportunity to learn more about medical care and services in the UK. For the past couple of decades, I have led a support group in NC for the Well Spouse Association, which is an association for spousal caregivers. My personal hobbies and interests are travel and hiking, table tennis and a variety of other sports, science fiction, and wood working.
I am looking forward to meeting all the other people who will be participating in this pod.’
Hi, my name is Chrissie, and I host the New to MS – friends and family Peer Pod.
I am a carer for my husband, Jason who was diagnosed with relapsing and remitting MS in 2015. I also work in healthcare as a pharmacy technician and have an additional advantage that I have experience both personally and professionally regarding multiple sclerosis.
I currently live with my husband and our bearded dragon who is called Toothless and our corn snake, Nagini.
I am an avid reader and enjoy spending time with my family and building lasting memories with my husband.
Being able to help and support people is something I have been working towards for a number of years and has been a large motivation in my professional career.
I’m really looking forward to meeting others and being able to provide empathy and support to the loved ones of those living with MS.
