Creative writing Peer Pod

Creative Writing Peer Pod

As part of our commitment to supporting people affected by multiple sclerosis (MS), MS-UK Peer Support service is opening the Creative Writing Peer Pod to everyone with MS who has an interest in writing. This pod is based on the 8-week Writing for Wellbeing course run by Georgi Gill and is hosted by an alum of the program, Regina Beach.

The pod focuses on a different form of creative writing each month. Over the course of 90 minutes participants read and respond to a piece of writing, explore the monthly form and have time to start writing (in the given form or on another personal project of their choosing). There is also space to share your writing with other pod members and ask for feedback if you wish.

There are many benefits to writing including exploring your thoughts and feelings, promoting greater self-awareness, increasing confidence and improving communication skills. This pod is suited for absolute beginners to creative writing as well as seasoned veterans with an established writing practice.

You may prefer to write by hand, type on a device or voice record your work, any method is welcome. Please just bring along paper and pen or make sure you have access to a suitable device for typing/recording your work.

Sessions are held via Zoom on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:30pm.

If you or someone you know would like to join, please fill out our form below by clicking the button. Our Peer Support Coordinator Vicky will be in touch with your shortly.

Meet your Creative Writing Peer Pod host

Hi, I’m Gina and I was diagnosed with RRMS in 2021. I am an American living in the Welsh Valleys. After a decade teaching in public schools, I’ve returned to my first love full time: writing. I am a professional copywriter and podcast producer and my essays, poems and articles have been published in a variety of print and digital publications.

Although I was only recently diagnosed, I’ve participated in quite a few MS-UK offerings including counselling, the meditation course and Georgi Gill’s writing course. I volunteered to host the Creative Writing pod so we can hear other PwMS’s stories, support one another’s creativity and explore new forms and genres.

I believe everyone has a story to tell. Whether you’ve been writing for years or are just dabbling for the first time since your school days, the Creative Writing peer pod welcomes you. Whether you’re a budding songwriter, poet, memoirist, novelist or short story lover, there is space here for you to experiment with words in a welcoming and nurturing space.
