As part of our new class format for 2026, this masterclass introduces the first focused topic that will guide our upcoming class period. It sets the foundation for understanding how core strength and posture work together, preparing you for the techniques and themes we will continue to build on in future sessions.

What this masterclass covers

This session explores the essential relationship between your core muscles and your posture. Alan will explain how the core is structured, how it supports your spine and pelvis, and why proper engagement is key for maintaining good alignment during both exercise and daily activities. You will also learn how breathing influences core activation, how to recognise your own postural patterns, and how small adjustments can help reduce strain and improve stability.

The session includes practical seated exercises (from chair and wheelchair) and floor-based exercises designed to help you activate and strengthen your core safely. Alan will demonstrate movements that enhance postural control and show you how to maintain proper alignment while performing everyday tasks such as washing, dressing, walking, or exercising.

Interactive elements

The masterclass features live demonstrations, simple assessments you can try during the session, and practical examples that you can continue to use at home. There will also be time for questions, creating an engaging and supportive environment.

Why this topic matters

Your core acts as the central support system for your entire body. When these muscles work effectively, they stabilise your spine and pelvis, helping you move with more confidence, comfort, and control. This session will equip you with the essential skills to improve your posture and quality of movement.

What next

Following the masterclass, we will continue exploring the theme of core and posture in our upcoming class period. You’ll have the opportunity to build on what you’ve learned through a structured 8-week programme designed to help you strengthen your core progressively and apply these techniques to everyday life. The programme will integrate seamlessly with the new class format to reinforce and expand on the principles introduced in this session.
