Dad and son join forces to raise money for MS-UK

Simon Patterson is taking on fun challenges and fundraising events alongside his 10-year-old son, George, to raise money for MS-UK as he heads full steam ahead to Rome

Hi I’m Simon, and together with my 10-year-old son George, we are taking on a year of challenges, fundraising events, and probably a few slightly daft ideas along the way all to raise money for MS-UK.

In March 2027, I will attempt my first-ever full marathon in Rome. A challenge that once felt impossible now feels like something worth fighting for.

My blog is where we record our fundraising journey and hopefully the fun and adventures we will have along the way, which should end in March 2027 in Rome.

MS is a cause that means a great deal to our family. George never got the chance to meet his grandmother, but I did. Despite living with MS, she was one of the strongest people I have ever known. She never complained. She just carried on, with determination, humour and strength. That quiet resilience has stayed with me ever since.

Since beginning this journey, George and I have already started fundraising in our local community through our snack and drinks stall, an idea that George thought up and has thrown himself into completely.

From building webpages to managing social media accounts and serving customers with a smile, he has become the driving force behind much of what we do.

We share everything, including…

  • -The training highs and lows
  • -The fundraising events
  • -The setbacks
  • -The victories
  • -The fun, ridiculous and memorable moments along the way

Most importantly, it is a place to help spread awareness of the incredible work carried out by MS-UK, a charity that relies heavily on donations to continue supporting people living with MS.

We are only at the beginning of this journey, but if our story can raise money, raise awareness, or inspire even one person not to give up on something difficult, then every mile will be worth it.
