Remap Essex visit Josephs Court

Posted on: March 09 2017

remap.jpgHi everyone,

Last week at Josephs Court we were lucky to have a visit from our local branch of Remap.

Remap is a charity which produces aids and equipment for people with disabilities where there are no suitable alternatives. The service is free of charge and produced entirely by volunteers and they work throughout the Essex area. Remap Essex are four of 94 local groups spread across the UK.

Peter, Martin and Ashley came along to meet our clients on Wednesday 01 March, and we were delighted to welcome them to our centre. They gave a presentation on the work they do and addressed our client’s questions and afterwards sat with each individual client and made arrangements to visit them to hopefully help with their needs.

Each piece of equipment is tailor made to suit the specific needs of the individual, and they like to work with health professionals like occupational therapists or physiotherapists to make sure the equipment provided meets the needs of each person.

It was great to see our clients coming along to the talk, asking questions about adapting all sorts of things from mobility scooters to back scratchers and repurposing everyday objects to support independence.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and a big thank you to Remap Essex for taking the time to visit us!

Getting to know you...

Posted on: March 08 2017

Hi everyone,

Last year we launched our 'Getting to know you' survey, asking questions all about yourself - from how old you are to what MS-UK services you may have used in the past. Everything is completely anonymous, and we don't ask you for any contact details at all.

The reason we do this is because we really like to know about the people we're supporting. MS-UK puts people affected by multiple sclerosis at the heart of our work, and we want to be able to provide services that really meet your needs. We also want to make sure we're reaching as many different people as possible.

You can take part in our survey online today - it shouldn't take you more than ten minutes. If you would like a paper copy, please do email me or call 01206 226500 and I will send you one in the post.

Thanks for your help with this,

Best wishes,

Laura May

Meet Jenny...

Posted on: March 07 2017

Hi I’m Jenny, and I’ve just started working as the new Events Fundraiser for MS-UK.

For the last eight years I have volunteered my spare time to various charities with the aim to work in the charity sector eventually. I’ve organised many a bucket collection, buskerthons, mini music festivals and most recently a Mad Hatter’s tea and craft party.

I’ve also worked as an event assistant for Race for Life in Essex, and an events assistant for Charity Concierge at Latitude. So I am super excited to be given this awesome opportunity, and to share my creativity and knowledge with the MS-UK fundraising team.

In my spare time I love to be busy. I enjoy going to music festivals, concerts and musicals. I also love camping, and always have a camp fire when possible to make Smores. I also enjoy Geocaching, which is basically an outdoor treasure hunt using GPS satellites… If you fancy knowing more, get in touch!

When I’m not outdoors I like to be crafty, with sewing being my favourite passion. I probably own enough material, buttons and ribbon to open my own fabric store! But this doesn’t stop me from buying more. I’m looking forward to meeting you all soon at future events.

Blake meets Myles!

On Sunday 05 March, MS-UK was proud to go along to our local Junior Parkrun in Colchester with our beloved mascot Myles!

A big thank you to everyone who came along and ran in the rain – it was amazing to see so many people in fancy dress too!
