From Wednesday 30 September, the results for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon ballot will start to be released.
For the first time this year, the ballot stayed open for a week and as a result, 247,069 people entered the public ballot – that’s a LOT of people who want to run the marathon!!
Our very own fundraisers, Abi and Mark, have got their ballot entries in and will be eagerly waiting to hear if they will be on the start line for next year’s marathon. Whoop whoop!!
If you miss out on a ballot place or have always wanted to run the marathon, we do have some gold bond places which are guaranteed entries, get in touch with Abi and find out more about our gold bond places.
If you do get a ballot place, then why not run for MS-UK? We provide loads of support to all of our runners including cheering points on the route as well as a post-race reception with showers and sports massage.
The London Marathon is the highlight of our year and our fantastic team of volunteers do an amazing job in manning the cheering points or helping back at our post-race reception. If you are interested in volunteering for MS-UK, then do get in contact, we would love to hear from you!
Run for MS-UK!

This month has been really busy in the fundraising department, with so many people holding fundraisers up and down the country. We’ve had Blues festivals, family fun days, fun runs, local marathons, local half marathons, bike marathons and that’s just to name a few!
It’s really great to see so many people getting involved in supporting MS-UK. Whether this is your first ever fundraising event, or your hundredth event, whatever you do will help to go a long way.
Holding a fundraiser is super easy, and I love to help as much as I can. If you have a fundraising event planned, just drop me an email and I can send out one of our fundraising packs to you – including your own MS-UK t-shirt to wear at your event! If you are still thinking about what to do, get in touch, we have loads of fundraising ideas!!
Each month I nominate one fundraiser to star in our e-newsletter and on the website as ‘Fundraiser of the Month’. This month Vicky Edwards was our Fundraiser of the Month, you can check out her inspiring story here.
We have so many fantastic supporters; I wish I could feature everyone! We really do appreciate the imaginative ways that people come up with to support MS-UK – you are amazing!
So if you want to get involved in holding your own event, no matter how big or small, gets in touch! I’m always happy to help and you could be our Fundraiser of the Month!
Thanks for your support!

Last week, the subject of best lines from films popped up so here’s what the fundraising team came up with….hmmm, quite a response! Can you guess which film’s they are from?
‘I don’t want to own anything until I find a place where me and things go together. I’m not sure where that is but I know what it is like. It’s like Tiffany’s’
‘Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something, not even me’
‘Son, your ego is writing checks your body can’t cash’
‘I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.’
What’s your favourite line from a film? Let us know in the comments section below and the winner will receive a free pair of bear ears.
Our fantastic Back to School fundraising toolkit is just what you need to start putting the FUN into fundraising! Your toolkit gives you numerous ways in which you, your friends, parents and even your teachers can get involved. These can be simple ideas or the wackiest thing you can think of, the wackier the better!
Some ideas can include a bake sale either at your school or at home where you and your parents can have separate tables and see who sells the most cakes. Remember to make them look nice and colourful to attract people’s attention.
If you have been told that you are a chatty person and always getting told to be quiet then why not do a sponsored silence, to prove everyone wrong. I know from personal experience people will try and put you off by asking you questions that they know you want to answer!
The more people you get to help you with your fundraising the easier it will become and the more money you will raise. A great way to do this is to hold a fancy dress day and that way everyone can get involved. This can range from wearing all one colour, fancy dress or even the brightest, loudest item of clothing that you have. To see who comes up with the best costume, offer a prize for the winner at the end of the day, remember this does not have to be a big prize.
Just a word of warning with whatever activity you do is to make sure you always get permission from your parents, teachers or head teacher especially if you do something within the school.
Remember that I am always here to help.

Welcome to the brand new blog from MS-UK’s fundraising team! So who’s who?
Anna is our newest member of the team, she only joined us in August and she is our Fundraising Administrator which means that she is an absolute whiz on the computer and loves all things organised – just what we need!
Abi heads up the Fundraising team and has spent the last ten years looking after the London Marathon team for MS-UK. Known within the fundraising team as #Abisaidso…..’nuff said!
Mark is our Community and Events Fundraiser and is known as the ‘King of Diplomacy’ in the Fundraising dept. As well as looking after our fundraisers, Mark keeps the fundraising team amused with his one liners and his great way of saying just the right thing at the right time!
Mike is our Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser and is working hard to get lots of projects funded for MS-UK. Mike’s ‘baby’ is his car which sits gleaming away in the staff car park!
