MS Awareness Week

MS Awareness Week is here!

MS Awareness Week is here! This year we’re teaming up with six other charities to make it bigger and better!

This MS Awareness Week (24 – 30 April), for the first time, seven of the UK’s MS charities have come together to share one unified message.

We’re teaming up with the MS Society, MS Trust, Overcoming MS, MS Together, Shift.ms and the Neuro Therapy Network to put MS centre stage.

Over 130,000 people live with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the UK. A common misconception is that it affects everyone in the same way.

This is incorrect. We know that MS is unpredictable and different for everybody, so it can spark all kinds of emotions. Some people might feel scared, anxious, or alone. But others could feel hopeful, resilient, or strong.

So this MS Awareness Week, we want to show how many different experiences there are of living with MS. And that’s where you come in. Throughout the week we want you to use the hashtag #MSMakesMe to tell us how MS makes you feel.

For example ‘#MSMakesMe frustrated’ or ‘#MSMakesMe brave’.

The whole MS community can get involved. So whether you live with MS yourself, or you’re a friend, family member, carer, healthcare professionals or researchers – you’re invited to join the conversation!

Sara Reeve, who lives with MS, says, ‘MS makes me realise there are plenty of kind people who are happy to help if needed, I speak to more people when I’m out and about than ever before, since being in a wheelchair.’

Throughout the week, the seven charities will be providing a range of activities and support. You could try anything from an accessible exercise classes, to a webinar, to a drop-in support sessions, and more. MS-UK will be hosting a number of accessible online activities throughout MS Awareness Week and is inviting you to come an try them for free. Visit out MS Awareness page to see what events are taking place and follow along on social media to find out more.

Amy Woolf, Chief Executive at MS-UK says, ‘We’re excited to be working together with the MS community and other MS charities to raise awareness of what life can feel like for people living with multiple sclerosis. By encouraging people to be brave and share their feelings through our #MSMakesMe campaign, we hope to demonstrate that people with MS are not alone, that there is a community behind them and all our charities are here to offer support.’
